Workmen constructing subway under Thames

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of workmen constructing the Tower Subway, an iron tube under the river Thames from Tower Hill to hold a cable railway. The subway opened in 1869, was later converted for pedestrian use, and closed in 1898. Today the tube is used for water mains.
