Women factory workers making lint

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of women factory workers making lint for the army during the Crimean War – lint was used for surgical dressings. They turn old linen rags on a roller and work a treadle which controls a sharp blade which cuts the linen fibres to make a soft piled fabric. This factory employed women aged between 16 and 20; they earned about 2s 6d a day.
