Woman plays steam organ – the Aerephon

Victorian illustration to download showing a woman sitting at the keyboard of the Aerephon, a steam organ. The large musical instrument is ornately decorated, and from its top emerge many trumpet-shaped pipes graduated from small to large. The Aerephon was introduced from the USA to Britain by Arthur S Denny in 1860. The instrument was displayed at Cremorne Gardens, where nightly recitals were given.
