Woman lion tamer attacked by tiger

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of a woman lion tamer in a cage with a lion and tiger being attacked by a tiger; onlookers are afraid or try to help. She was Ellen Blight, aged 17, ‘the Lion Queen’, who regularly performed with the animals at Wombwell’s Menagerie. This attack took place in 1849. She died of her injuries, and was buried in the same grave as her cousin, William Wombwell, who had been killed by an elephant.
