Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of stonemasons restoring the vaulted roof of a medieval chapel. They work from a temporary wooden floor so that they can reach the stone ribs and bosses. Some damaged bosses lie on the floor. This is the crypt of Old St Stephen’s Chapel, Westminster, which was restored in 1859. The chapel was the only part of the old Palace of Westminster to survive the fire of 1834.
