SS Great Eastern laying telegraph cable

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s SS Great Eastern. At her launch in 1858 she was the largest ship ever built.  She was converted from a passenger liner to a cable-lying ship; the picture shows her laying the first transatlantic telegraph cable in 1866.
