The men all wear top hats, and the women, who ride side-saddle, wear miniature top hats and flowing riding habits. They are watched by passers-by. In the 19th century Rotten Row was the fashionable place for upper-class Londoners to ride. It was created by William III in 1690; Rotten Row derives from its original name, Route du Roi.
