Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of the mathematician and physicist Isaac Newton (1642-1726) experimenting with light: holding a prism to a chink in the door, he directs a beam of light to display the colours of the spectrum on a sheet of paper. This illustration is from ‘Newton investigating Light’, a painting by the artist John Adam Houston (1811-84), who exhibited this painting in the Royal Academy in 1870.
