Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of a huge steam roller standing in a city street. Two navvies stand alongside, carrying a spade and a pickaxe. This steam roller was supplied to Liverpool in 1867. It was made by Aveling & Porter of Rochester and Strood, Kent. Thomas Aveling, an agricultural engineer and steam roller manufacturer, formed a partnership with Richard Porter in 1862. The company became the largest manufacturer of steam rollers in the world.
