Gun drill on a Royal Navy ship

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of Royal Navy sailors carrying out gun drill on board ship, manoeuvring a large gun to a porthole. This is a 7-inch muzzle-loading gun – 22lb of powder fires a 115lb shell. This part of the drill is known as ‘running out’: the gun, on rollers, is hauled to a porthole preliminary to aiming.
