Great Conservatory, Chatsworth, interior

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of the interior of the Great Conservatory, Chatsworth, Derbyshire, designed by Joseph Paxton in 1837 for the Duke of Devonshire. The glass roof soars over a wide path lined with palms and other exotic plants. At the time this was the largest glass building in the world, the precursor of Paxton’s Crystal Palace. The Conservatory was demolished in 1920.
