Girl making nails

Girl making nails

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of female industrial labour: a young girl makes spike nails (large iron nails, 4 to 9 inches long), using a foot-operated jack hammer and a hand hammer. This was hard, strenuous work, done by girls aged 14 to 18, who earned a mere 5s a week.
