Fishing for herring in rough seas

Victorian illustration to download showing a fishing boat, a Yarmouth lugger, fishing for herring in rough seas. The crew haul in the net amidships, and four men wind the rope attached to it round the capstan. The fishing net is full of herring. The captain stands by directing the crew; he holds a landing net to gather the herring dangling from the edge of the net. The main mast is lowered, and the mizzen sail holds the boat steady. This illustration is an engraving of a water colour painting, ‘The Harvest of the North Sea’ by G H Andrews, exhibited in 1867.
