Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of the building of new Westminster Bridge, 1855: illumined by an innovative electric light, workers are pile driving at night. Night work was sometimes necessary to coincide with low tide – the piles for the foundations could only be driven at low tide. The bridge opened in 1862.
