Constructing a span of a railway bridge

Victorian illustration to download showing a span of a railway bridge being constructed in 1858 by Cochrane & Co, Woodside Iron Works, Dudley, for the East Indian Railway Company. At this time they made 9 spans for two railway bridges totalling 1170 tons of wrought iron and 150 tons of cast iron; each span was 150ft long, of box girder construction with reinforcing diagonal bars. Each span took just one week to make.
