Chelsea Pensioners in the chapel

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of Chelsea Pensioners, inmates of the Royal Hospital, Chelsea, founded by Charles II to help old soldiers. They are wearing their uniform and medals and sitting on benches in their chapel attending a service. The chapel was designed by Christopher Wren. At the time of this illustration (1871) there were about 540 Pensioners, and their average age was 65.
