Calculating machine

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of a calculating machine, invented in 1855 by George and Edward Scheutz of Stockholm. After making calculations, it produced a lead stereotype mould from which printing plates could be made. The machine was the size of a piano – very different from today’s digital calculators.
