Victorian illustration to download showing labourers building the new Westminster Bridge in 1855 (it opened 1862). Staging has been erected beside the old bridge (of 1750) and in the foreground are cast iron piles and plates to contain the concrete foundations. The engineer Thomas Page designed the bridge to harmonise with the new Houses of Parliament, which can be seen under construction in the background.
