Balloon ascent from Vauxhall Gardens

Victorian illustration to download showing a picture of the ascent of the Great Nassau Balloon from Vauxhall Gardens in 1850, watched by enthusiastic crowds, including members of the Nepalese embassy (left). The balloon was piloted by Charles Green, the greatest British balloonist of the 19th century; on this flight the balloon landed in Kent, a trip of 12 miles.
